Tony Wendice is a retired tennis star who has quite blatantly married Shelia for her money. Feeling unloved and neglected by her errant husband, Shelia embarked on an affair with writer Max Halliday. However, since Tony's retirement a year ago he has become a model husband and their marriage seems to be back on track. Shelia's lover, Max, returns from America a year later. To stop them rekindling their affair, Tony takes drastic measures - with murderous results.
